Monday 23 February 2026: Online Seed Grower Meet-up #23
6:00PM-7:30PM EST
SEED CONTRACTS OPEN FORUM
If you are actively seeking and negotiating seed contracts for 2026 (and beyond), OR if you want to understand more about growing seed on contract, all are welcome to share their experiences and questions with a community of peers.
How we each represent our own community and market value of services and skills is unique (and should always be). Listening to each other’s approaches and journeys in business can give us helpful reframings of “Who am I, and why my work matters”. Whether it is confusing contract details, how to “market” better, or just where to start, we’ll do our community best to support each other. Please note: Our SWO Seed Grower Meet-up in March will also be a Seed Contracts Open Forum.
Open to all seed folks, active or aspiring. Hosted by Seed Growers, for Seed Growers.
Co-Hosted by:
Steph Warr of Twisted Brook Farm in Nova Scotia, Canada
Heron Breen of Saint Albans, Maine USA

COLLECTIVE MARKETING
For the first 2026 edition of our monthly community gathering, Seed Workers Organizing will be hosting our Canadian colleague Hugo Martorell, Quebec Regional Coordinator at SeedChange. Over the past 2 months, Hugo has piloted and launched an exciting new initiative : Quebec’s First Edition of a Farm-Grown Bulk Organic and Ecological Vegetable Seed Catalogue, accessible both in English and in French. In this session, Hugo will present his motivations, the ‘behind-the-scenes’ and what he’s learnt since the project’s inception. We will all discuss the relevance and potential of such a catalogue in across many seed economy contexts. To prepare for attending this session, please read over the catalogue!!! We will assume that all attendees have done this homework so we can have a deeper & more direct discussion.

THERE’S NO BUSINESS LIKE SEED BUSINESS…
Seed catalogs have started landing, and updated seed websites are launching new offerings. Many seed growers have worked hard to fill those (web & paper) pages with choices. After a Summer cultivating seed, does this retail flurry (seasonal pun intended) feel fulfilling? Is this the totality of seedwork? Are we the the millstone, the grain, the miller, the flour merchant, the baker….or F) all of the above? At this December meet-up, please offer your experiences and confusions with the raw mechanisms of selling seed retail and/or wholesale. Equally welcome are your thoughts and observations on how we can do this differently, and maybe better communicate the value of our craft. Of course, any and all other seed questions are welcome!

NOVEMBER! Seed cleaning, Seed deliveries & sales, and planning for next year.
Goodness, doesn’t November want everything all at once? Some of us are in the thick of seed processing ahead of delivery deadlines or sales launches. Some of us are in the thick of deconstructing the 2025 plots while designing next year’s approach. And maybe some of us are even considering seed contracts for 2026 already. And then there are most of us, who are doing all of the above. In all this, peer support is never bad! If you can find time for community & a nice hot cup of tea or cider, we’d love to see & hear you!

SEPTEMBER SEED SOLUTIONS
A seed grower can find September a month dense with intrusive and urgent questions: What did I do wrong? What did I do right? What do I do now? What could I do differently next time? How do I keep up as the days get shorter? How can I be most prepared for seed harvest and processing in October and onward? These thoughts (and many more) can run through one’s mind in a any given September day. But remember: the rest of us are right there with you! Let’s address the challenges together, and maybe we can collectively banish some worry and rest (and work) easier.

HOW YOU DO IT!
Isolation Approaches in Seedwork
The “How You Do It” meet-up format is where all willing attendees can share how they do what they do, focused on certain topics. It is an open forum to learn about different ways of doing things from your seed-growing peers, and ask each other questions.
In this meet-up we will hear from our fellow growers about the various ways we each use isolations to grow seed. Isolations are often thought of as “isolation distances” but there are many other ways to keep species-related varieties from crossing.
